Personalization truly does speak volumes - few gifts are as thoughtful and creative as those that are custom-made specifically with a loved one in mind. This is especially true when it comes to finding gifts for the children in your life - there are so many beautiful, original ideas available (from monogrammed blankets and clothing to inscribed photo frames and other traditional keepsakes).
Still, you may find yourself in a situation where you're looking for something a bit more personal - perhaps a little more interactive - than clothing or keepsakes. If so, let me introduce you to YourPictureBook.com.
YourPictureBook.com is an online distributor of personalized children's books and other creative photo gifts. Unlike traditional personalized books (which only include a child's name in printed form), YourPictureBook.com offers a delightful new twist by making your little one the star of the story. Simply uploading the photo of your choice to YourPictureBook.com's website will give you the ability to include a picture of your child on every single page of one of three colorful, imaginative books.
How does this work, exactly? Once you've supplied a photo of your child, along with their name and an optional dedication, YourPictureBook.com's digital artists convert the picture into a painting, which is then seamlessly integrated into the book's illustrations. The result is a picture book that appears to have been illustrated all at once, featuring your child's name and photo on every page.YourPictureBook.com offers two options for photo integration - full-body and half-body. If you have a head-to-toe picture of the child who will be appearing in the book, you can go ahead and have YourPictureBook.com use the full-body option. If you do not have a complete photo, that's okay, too - using the half-body option will let the digital artists know that they should include scenery and objects that will conceal your child's body from the waist down.

Can Count introduces children to reading and counting through rhyming prose and beautiful, colorful illustrations. Both educational and fun, this title promotes learning by capturing your child's attention and involving them in the action of the story.Moon Dirt Milkshake is a gorgeously illustrated story of friendship and adventure. When the star of the story wakes up one morning with a handful of silvery moon dust, he decides to stir it into his milk to make a "moon dirt milkshake". Soon he begins growing larger and larger until he eventually floats right off the earth and into outer space! After meeting a friendly star named Sparkle, the two embark on a journey that's out of this world!
Finally, Noah's Ark recounts the beloved Biblical tale, with the addition of one very special character! Children will be delighted to see themselves helping to build the ark and caring for its animal passengers, while learning the lessons of this age-old story in a completely new and exciting way.YourPictureBook.com was kind enough to offer one personalized book for review. After reading the descriptions of each of their original stories, one title immediately called out to me: Moon Dirt Milkshake, perfect for the adventurous little boy in my life.
It wasn't long after I submitted my information that YourPictureBook.com turned this...
...into this:
Honestly, the best part about YourPictureBook.com's services isn't seeing your child illustrated in an imaginative, full-color book - it's being there when your child sees their own familiar face staring back at them from each and every page.
V isn't much of a reader (something that pains me because I wish he were more interested in sitting down and looking at a book with me), but even he had to come wandering over to curiously examine the little boy standing amid a backdrop of stars and rainbows. And, as expected, he recognized himself right away (much to his delight and excitement).
While V was entirely more interested in finding himself on every page, I took the opportunity to read the tale of how my rambunctious son made himself a "moon dirt milkshake" for breakfast (against my advice, of course) and set off on an adventure through space, accompanied by one friendly little star. I loved the sweet, imaginative storyline, the gorgeous accompanying illustrations, and the idea of my child being immortalized in the pages of a book made just for him.
