Academy J Headbands
Review and Giveaway

***CONTEST CLOSED. THANKS FOR ENTERING!***

You all know how much I admire the handmade movement - I love the idea of purchasing items that are one-of-a-kind, made with special care and attention to detail. Handmade items reflect creativity, individuality, and a beauty that is rarely found in commercial products - from clothing and jewelry to household decorations and miscellaneous accessories.

With that in mind, I'm thrilled to be able to introduce you to a digital store-front that offers gorgeous handcrafted hair accessories - Academy J.

Founded and run by a team BYU Visual Arts/Education students, Academy J came into existence when three talented young women combined their love of people, art, design, and good old-fashioned hard work. The result is a unique collection of handcrafted headbands that are truly one-of-a-kind.

Academy J offers two categories of hair accessories: crocheted and embellished. The crocheted headbands include thick bands and thin bands, while the embellished items include beaded designs and soft-banded accessories. Both categories offer hair clips as well.

I came into contact with one of the amazing designers behind Academy J recently, and was only to happy to accept an item for review. From the embellished beaded collection, I received the incredibly gorgeous Lucille headband.

The Lucille hair accessory is made up of a beaded trim of black roses attached to a thin elastic band. I must say, I am incredibly impressed by how simple and elegant this piece is - the black rose design is timeless and lovely, but still whimsical enough to be worn as part of a fun outfit. Most of my wardrobe consists of dark or neutral colors, which means that the Lucille headband fits right in with any clothing combination I may choose to wear.

Here is a quick snapshot of this Academy J headband in action. (Please ignore the fact that I'm terrible at self-portraiture - and that I appear to have perpetually messy hair :)
