"The Unofficial Holiday Gift Guide"
Leg Huggers
(Review and Giveaway)

***CONTEST CLOSED. THANKS FOR ENTERING!***

Moms of boys know how frustrating it is to bundle your little guy up from head to toe, making sure to cover head, ears, arms, torso... and then realizing, as soon as you hoist your son onto your hip, that his pant legs hitch up and allow cold air to sabotage all of your hard work. While little girls usually have tights to fall back on, boys are a little trickier to keep warm - you could double-layer his pants, or simply pull his socks up as far as they'll go, but realistically these aren't very comfortable options.

It was because of this little problem that I was first introduced to the concept of baby leg-warmers. Two Christmases ago, when V was barely half a year old, I bought his very first pair of striped banana-and-blue leg-warmers as a stocking stuffer. Having recently discovered cloth diapers as well, I loved the way both accessories looked in combination and was instantly hooked - between then and now, my little guy acquired quite a few pairs, many of which are now shared by his baby brother.

It wasn't terribly surprising, then, that when I came across Leg Huggers, I instantly knew that we had to try them.
Leg Huggers are gorgeous baby leg-warmers designed to be both fashionable and functional - they fit perfectly over those adorable chubby baby legs and offer warmth from the elements by acting as an added layer beneath skirts or pants. Leg Huggers are also wonderful accessories to protect little knees from scrapes and abrasions, and offer easy accessibility for potty-learning toddlers.

What sets
Leg Huggers apart from other baby leg-warmers, however, is that they are created using natural, eco-friendly bamboo. Bamboo is one of the world's most sustainable resources, acting as the fastest-growing plant found on Earth. It shares many of the same properties as cotton with a few key advantages:

  • Antibacterial properties. Bamboo wicks moisture away from the skin instead of absorbing it and holding on to dampness. Because of this, bamboo helps your circulation and protects your skin from over-heating and chills that may result from trapped-in moisture.
  • Breathability. Because bamboo is composed of a matrix with various microscopic gaps, the fiber is more breathable, more comfortable, and provides better thermal regulation than other materials. This, in turn, keeps you cooler and drier since bamboo apparel absorbs and evaporates perspiration faster than any other fabric.
  • Hypoallergenic properties. Bamboo is hypoallergenic, and its natural, organic fibers are non-irritating to even the most sensitive skin. Bamboo apparel also has the ability to protect skin from UV rays, naturally.
  • Sustainability. Bamboo apparel is good for our planet because it does not require pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers, and does not involve the use of genetically-modified organisms. Best of all, bamboo fibers are also completely biodegradable.
Leg Huggers come in a variety of adorable styles and colors, with the majority intended for little girls (although there are a few selections available for baby boys). For review, our family was presented with two "boy-centric" pairs of Leg Huggers - Racer Argyle and Puzzle Fun.

The first thing I noticed about these unique leg-warmers was how soft and stretchy the material felt. Just from giving them a few gentle pulls, I could tell right away that the
Leg Huggers would conform to just about any shape and would thus serve as interchangeable accessories for my boys. When it came time to see how they would hold up in action, I asked my toddler to select the pair of his choice for testing (with the second pair automatically going to his little brother). V decided that the Racer Argyle was right up his alley, so after the boys' first diaper change of the day, I let them spend some time in their new Leg Huggers.

As many of you know from spending some time on my blog, V is an incredibly busy little boy - he's high-energy from sun up to sun down and seems to constantly be in motion. He spends the majority of his day running, jumping, crouching, climbing - suffice it to say, he is never in one position for very long. I was happy to note, then, that his brand new
Leg Huggers held up quite well in the face of such an active toddler - they didn't bunch up or sag at all, instead contouring to his legs comfortably so that he could move as usual without a second thought.

Baby G thought that his
Puzzle Fun Leg Huggers were fascinating - he spent quite a bit of time picking at the shapes covering his chubby little legs and was happy to wear them the entire day (actually, as I type this, he is sleeping in his father arms with one Puzzle Fun-covered leg hanging over the side of our rocking chair). I'm especially pleased by the fact that his bamboo leg-warmers are non-irritating - baby G has such wonderfully chubby legs that he often gets friction rashes from his clothing, but I don't have to worry about that while he's wearing his Leg Huggers. Also, because they cover his knees and don't slide down or sag, I know that he's safe from the bumps and scrapes that come with learning to crawl.

Here are a few action-shots of the boys sporting their adorable
